Join us on October 28 for the 11th edition of the Dutch Big Brother Awards!
28.10.2015Every year, the Big Brother Awards pays tribute to the creme de la creme of privacy offenders: individuals, corporations and governments who have distinguished themselves by grossly infringing on citizens’ privacy and freedom. This year the Big Brother Awards will have English subtitles, which means non-Dutch speakers won’t have to miss a thing. Join us at the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam!
Last year the awards went to the Dutch schools and – for the fourth time – to the now former minister of security and justice Ivo Opstelten. Edward Snowden received the Winston Award for his highly personal and influential contribution to the privacy debate. We weren’t sure where to go from there.
But then again: a lot happens in a year. This year’s nominees range from Achmea, the Dutch insurer that chose big data over solidarity, to Minister of the Interior Ronald Plasterk and his bill for a new Intelligence and Security Services Act, to the chief of the National Police Force, for practicing ‘predictive policing’. (Read more about the nominees here.) We’ll be talking with Max Schrems and about Felipe Rodriguez, who passed away this month. Visitors can become surveillers themselves during a performative expedition, or claim their Google passport at the Consulate of Google.
